Are you hosting house guests next week? While you’re preparing your guest areas and anticipating a cozy time at home, it could be a good time to sort through your linen closet and gather items that could be of better use to another family this Thanksgiving.
One of my neighbors here in Lake Barcroft recently mentioned that she had some household items that she wanted to donate to families in need in our area. She mentioned that there is a family shelter close by, in Seven Corners, but she didn’t know how to get donations to them.
I hadn’t known about it before, but she is right: Shelter House of Fairfax County provides housing for up to nine homeless families at the Patrick Henry Family Shelter at the corner of Route 7 and Patrick Henry Drive.
I spoke with one of their directors and she said that they welcome donations from the community, and that their current needs are:
bath towels
bed linens
non-perishable food items
diapers
feminine products
The best part is how easy it is to deliver: There is someone on duty at the shelter 24 hours a day, and the attendant can help carry things from your car if you need help. The address is 3080 Patrick Henry Drive, and the phone number is 703-536-2155. You can call ahead if you need extra assurance that someone will be there to accept your donation.
If you want more information, or need help making a donation to the family shelter, call me at 703-402-0471 and I will send someone to pick up your items to donate.
