Show Your Team Spirit
Obviously the event of the weekend is tonight’s effort to bring home the Stanley Cup! Just about everyone will be getting into the fun, but if you don’t have plans yet, consider spending this gorgeous summer evening viewing the big game in the Beer Garden at Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria. They’ll have the crew from NBC Sports Capitals on hand to get the crown going and give out free swag, plus the Bourinquen Lunch Box food truck. Go Caps!
Take Yourself Back in Time
What is it about these tribute bands? They are such a fun mix of true talent, enthusiasm, kitsch, songs you know and love, and cheap tickets. This Friday it will be all about the Rolling Stones at the State Theater…. Who has the audacity to mimic one of the greatest bands of all time? Satisfaction, the International Rolling Stones Show, that’s who. They’ve been doing it for 16 years, which I’m guessing makes it even more like seeing the real thing.
Calm Yourself Down
Try Yoga at the Wharf. Tess Pearson of the Yoga Factory is offering a free beginner-friendly yoga class by the water every Saturday this month. Bring your yoga mat to the District Pier at 9 am for an inspired and different start to the weekend with a sunny view of the Potomac.
Get Yourself Up
Once you get yourself calm and centered with your yoga workout, it will be time to get revved up again to tackle the rest of the day. Since you’re at the Wharf, stop in to Dolcezza for an espresso. This location has a full kitchen, which enables them to offer southern-inspired breakfast treats. I’m expecting a full report if any of you try it out!
We almost always try to wow our houseguests with some exotic Korean fare that they can’t get back home. This time of year, you can’t go wrong with Snocream down at the Block in Annandale. I really don’t even know what it is, but it’s ice cold, it’s sweet, and there are tons of toppings; some of which qualify as weird or mysterious. Which makes it fun. Go ahead and try it!
If you find yourself in Vienna this weekend, and looking for something different and a little healthy, you may want to try Amma Vegetarian Kitchen. They feature authentic vegetarian fare from the Indian subcontinent, and all the yelpers are raving about the dosa. A quick google search tells us that dosa is a pancake-type item made out a fermented batter. Interesting, no? Apparently it goes great with coconut chutney. Insider tip: they don’t have an ABC license (but you can make it through one meal, right?)
Are you enjoying the culinary treats of summer? For instance, a chili dog like you might get at some hole in the wall at the beach? I just learned that you can get something very similar in Shirlington at a place called Weenie Beenie! As you might expect, it’s cheap and some people question how clean it is, but it gets the job done, plus they serve breakfast all day. Except Sundays, when they don’t serve anything all day at all.
