There are plenty of new or new-ish diversions around town this February, and some old favorites too! Consider one of these options:
Waterhouse Coffee and Juice Bar on Wilson Blvd in Arlington
New on the coffee house scene, with a focus on healthy options. People say it has a “chill” vibe and plenty of seating with helpful power outlets close by. They make juice, smoothies, Yuzu tea, and of course all types of coffee. Yelpers praise the pastries from Bread and Chocolate, but also appreciate the fruit and vegetable options too (no green melon in the fruit cup!). Worth a try for sure.
The Taproom at Dominion Wine and Beer
I’m hearing from all kinds of people that the upstairs at Dominion is happening and it’s 100% awesome. In addition to the incredible selection of craft beers (24 on tap), you can now enjoy a bar menu that includes charcuterie and fried chicken, and ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Brilliant. Let’s go.
This reliable Del Ray staple used to be a favorite but we haven’t been in a while. It’s getting fresh attention these days with a new chef who is impressing everyone with creative American Cooking in the same extremely cool bar and dining room. Probably time for a return trip. Reservations on Open Table.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band
…is playing four shows at the Warner Theater (Feb 15, 16, 22, and 23). Fans LOVE this 11-piece outfit fronted by two of the finest contemporary contemporary blues guitarists in the world (who just happen to be married). Definitely jam-band around the edges, their music is described as “a thoroughly American amalgamation of blues, soul, jazz, and funk.” Tickets here.
One more tip:
On the Smithsonian front, this is the perfect time of year to spend time in the US Botanic Garden because it is a giant greenhouse! It feels great in there! Right now you can take in an exhibit that highlights “the height of creativity and innovation” in American public gardens. I hear it’s actually very good, and a welcome dose of tropical green. Open 10-5 daily.
