The Very Best Sugar Cookie in the Whole World

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without cut-out cookies!  Every year we decorate tons of them with friends and family.  I remember one year we made over 200(!) cutouts for a particularly memorable cookie party at our old house on Valley Court.

I had tried many recipes over the years but had a breakthrough a few years back when my friend Nora Bray shared her mom Ginger’s recipe with me: the aptly named “The Very Best Sugar Cookie in the Whole World.”  These ladies are both fantastic bakers and so gracious to share this awesome recipe!

The Very Best Sugar Cookie in the Whole World

Ginger Headley

1 cup butter, softened

1 ¾ cup sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla

½ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

3 ½ cup flour

Cream together butter and sugar. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Sift baking powder, salt & flour and stir into batter. Gather dough into a ball and refrigerate at least 20 minutes. Divide dough in half and roll out on a lightly floured board. Cut into shapes and bake at 350 degrees until done (8-12 minutes, depending on the size of your cutouts).
